What are the responsibilities and job description for the WIC Services Associate position at Cecil County Health Department?
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position provides paraprofessional services to the WIC program by determining program eligibility, conducting basic health and nutrition assessments, providing basic nutrition and breastfeeding education, making program referrals, explaining program policy and procedure, and explaining and distributing supplemental food benefits. The duties are performed in a manner that maintains client information in a confidential and organized way and maintains the clinic's appearance and function.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience in health or human service delivery, performing tasks such as program eligibility determination, health screening, client referral services, or nutrition education.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health-related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate should possess:
- Experience working with pregnant women and/or families with children at birth until they start kindergarten.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Strong skillset and/or training in communication, emotional intelligence and motivational interviewing.
- Experience working effectively in a fast-paced clinic setting.
- Experience in the WIC setting and previous participation in the WIC program.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
