Position Summary

A Technology Superintendent is the primary job site supervisor with operational responsibility for employees involved in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repair of structured cabling systems, and associated materials and equipment for small, mid-sized and large ground up projects or tenant finish projects where complex coordination of multiple subordinate Leads and crews is required. This is a safety sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all CEC field trades on a structured cabling construction project.
  • Does a working estimate and take-off jointly with the Project Manager.
  • Lays out work for subordinate Leads and Installers and is jointly responsible with the Project Manager for having material, tools, equipment, information, and appropriate manpower in the proper place in a timely fashion.
  • Establishes work schedules and man-loading charts.
  • Interfaces with representatives of the General Contractor on day-to-day project scheduling and overall performance issues.
  • Provides general supervision to subordinate Foremen engaged in the installation of structured cabling installations, and related connections and terminations.
  • Monitors work as performed, directs subordinate Leads and crews, and schedules work per the pace of the job and other trades.
  • Handles or oversees the disposition of required office correspondence and administrative paperwork such as official forms, daily reports, time sheets/tickets, safety reports, etc.
  • Is responsible overall project safety performance. Assures employees are properly trained or instructed in performance of duties to which assigned. Assures compliance with all CEC safety processes and protocols. Investigates or assists in investigation and reporting of any accident or safety incidents involving jobsite employees.
  • May also include specialty skills, such as AV, Security, CCTV, OSP Fiber, WIFI, Data Center, ETC.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • 8 years or more of commercial/industrial communications experience.
  • High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.

Required Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Comprehend reading and drawing prints, specifications, and schematics.
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  • Utilize all power tools, saws, threaders, and knockout punches.
  • Operate wire tuggers and hydraulic benders.
  • Dig trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  • Operate all equipment including trenchers, backhoe, and lift trucks in a safe manner.
  • Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in CECs Safety Policy Handbook, Haz-Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
  • Operate two handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jack hammers.
  • Operate company vehicles with both manual and automatic transmission.
  • Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, work site directions, and written instructions.
  • Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, both electric and gasoline powered.
  • Work energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in CECs Safety Policy.
  • Install and make branch wire terminations in junction boxes and panel boards.
  • Install and make feeder wire terminations in junction boxes and switch boards.

May work inside or outside. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, in all-weather elements such as rain, heat, cold and snow. This position also requires work at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space, or attic, in confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a heavy construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.

  1. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  2. Lift 51 pounds, routinely. Constantly move about on the feet.
  3. Climb ladders of all types.
  4. Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
  5. Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  6. Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
  7. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  8. Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  9. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
  10. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. This position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, this position is often required to work overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
  11. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
