What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Electrician position at CDS Home Services?
CDS Home Services is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Master Electrician to join our leadership team. This is a high-accountability leadership role with full responsibility for P&L, job costing, estimating, field execution, and back office operational support, reporting directly to the President and CEO.
The ideal candidate is a builder: someone who creates repeatable systems, develops talent, and runs the business as if the capital were their own. You will lead a team of 8–12 field employees ranging from apprentices to journeymen, serve as license of record enabling CDS to pull permits across four states, and act as a technical authority in the sales and estimating process. This is not a supervisory role with a side of paperwork; it is a business leadership role held by someone who also happens to be a Master Electrician.
Essential Job Functions / Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Technical Oversight
- Ensure all work is completed to code, safely, and to the highest quality standards across MD, PA, VA, and DE.
- Serve as license of record, authorizing permit applications managed by the CDS office team.
- Conduct field inspections and quality assurance checks on completed installations.

- Lead, mentor, and develop a field team of 8–12 employees, including apprentices and journeymen, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous growth.
- Set clear performance expectations and provide regular coaching and feedback.
- Build and develop the field team in alignment with your own standards of craftsmanship and professionalism.
- Create repeatable playbooks and standard operating procedures — systematize what works so the business does not depend on heroics.
- Collaborate with management to identify training needs and support career development pathways for field staff.
- Champion a positive, team-oriented work environment that reflects CDS’s values.
- Sales Support & Estimating
- Partner with the field estimator to conduct site assessments and develop accurate, competitive estimates.

P&L Ownership & Business Performance
- Own the full P&L for CDS field operations: revenue, gross margin, job costing, and unit economics across the service territory.
- Track job estimate-versus-actual; identify variances, close gaps, and implement corrective action with urgency.
- Drive attach rate, first-time fix rate, completion quality, and rework metrics with a bias for accountability and measurable outcomes.
- Report directly to the President and CEO with transparency on performance, risks, and operational priorities.
Operational Excellence & Margin Management
- Actively manage field operations with a focus on efficiency, cost control, and profitability.
- Contribute to operational process improvements that enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.

- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Generac and/or Kohler factory certification preferred; willingness to obtain required.
- Experience
- Hands-on estimating and job costing: builds bids from scratch, tracks estimate vs. actual, and takes ownership of margin performance.
- Proven field leadership: has run crews of licensed electricians and apprentices, including scheduling, quality assurance, and safety.
- Track record building or scaling a trades operation — ideally in an entrepreneurial or small business environment where wearing multiple hats was the norm.
- Preferred experience with P&L ownership or direct exposure: has carried accountability for revenue, margin, and cost control in an electrical, trades, or home services business.
