The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides Medicaid-reimbursable peer support services to individuals enrolled in Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment (CORE) and Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). Services are delivered in accordance with New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) regulations, Medicaid billing requirements, recovery-oriented principles, and person-centered planning standards. The CPS utilizes lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to support participant engagement, wellness, independence, and community integration.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide OMH-approved peer support services within the scope of CORE and HCBS service definitions.
  • Use lived experience to model recovery, resiliency, self-determination, and hope. Engage participants using trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches.
  • Support participants in identifying recovery goals aligned with the individualized service plan (ISP).
  • Deliver services such as Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) and Community Psychiatric Support and Treatment (CPST), as authorized.
  • Assist participants with skill development related to daily living, socialization, coping strategies, and community participation.
  • Support linkage to community resources, natural support, and wellness activities.
  • Collaborate with care managers, clinicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in case conferences, supervision, and team meetings as required.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record consistent with OMH and Medicaid standards.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality, HIPAA, and OMH regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and ethical conduct consistent with peer practice guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Current New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification- REQUIRED
  • Documented lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to meet OMH CORE/HCBS training and competency requirements.
  • Ability to complete electronic documentation and comply with Medicaid billing timelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing Medicaid-funded peer support, CORE, or HCBS services.
  • Knowledge of NYS OMH regulations and Medicaid managed care requirements.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and high-need individuals.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the community, if required.

This is a per diem position with the potential to transition into a part-time role based on performance and organizational needs.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 12 per week
