Assistant Director – Mechanical Engineering
CD Companies is seeking an Assistant Director to support the leadership and day-to-day operations of its Mechanical Engineering Department. This role assists in overseeing project execution, staff development and oversight, and coordination of mechanical systems design for buildings across multiple sectors including Early Education, Retail, Industrial and Healthcare. This opportunity is limited to those able to work daily in our St. Louis Headquarters in support of staff.
The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Mechanical Engineering to help guide project teams, ensure quality and consistency of deliverables, and support schedule and workload management. As part of our integrated design team, this position collaborates with architects, engineers, and clients to produce coordinated, high-quality construction documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Department Director in leading and coordinating mechanical engineering projects and teams.
- Assist with planning, assigning, and monitoring project workloads and schedules to meet deliverable requirements.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to Mechanical and Plumbing Engineers and Designers.
- Collaborate with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of an integrated design process.
- Review and coordinate mechanical drawings and documents prepared using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Assist with mechanical/HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection calculations and related code research.
- Serve as Professional of Record for Mechanical and Plumbing work in multiple states.
- Support the preparation, review, and coordination of specifications.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals for quality and compliance.
- Participate in site visits as needed to support construction administration.
- Mentor staff and contribute to performance feedback, training, and professional development.
- Help implement department standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to be licensed in multiple states.
- 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, including HVAC systems, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or leading project teams.
- Working knowledge of the design and construction process and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in leadership, mentoring, and professional growth.
