Position Summary: The Sustainability Project Engineer supports the Corporate Social Responsibility team by developing, implementing, and managing projects that reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and support the company’s sustainability and ESG goals. This role bridges technical engineering expertise with sustainability strategy by identifying improvement opportunities, executing projects, and tracking measurable performance outcomes.

- Waste Diversion Projects
- Manage waste to landfill diversion efforts globally including recycling trials and troubleshooting local hurdles to increased recyclability rates in order to meet public waste reduction targets
- CCL’s representative at Association of Plastics Recyclers conferences
- Conduct quarterly waste circularity meetings with global representatives to assist in cross functional team communication and information sharing.
- Project Management
- Lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of sustainability-focused projects (e.g., energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, renewable energy, or carbon reduction initiatives).
- Develop business cases, technical specifications, and cost-benefit analyses for sustainability projects.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Data Collection & Engineering Support
- Collect, analyze and report Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions data.
- Assist the CSR team in increased renewable energy procurement through contracting of RECs, vPPAs and more.
- Evaluate new technologies and materials to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
- Support preparation of internal and external sustainability reports (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, S&P, CSRD, CCL Sustainability Reports)
- Collaboration
- Communicate directly and constantly with CSR team management on daily project work
- Collaborate with EHS, operations, procurement, facilities teams to integrate sustainability principles across functions
- Prepare presentations, reports, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, including ESG disclosures. Reporting, Disclosures & Strategy
- Miscellaneous
- Occasional travel to various CCL sites and conferences to meet with stakeholders and keep abreast of changing industry trends
- Assist the CSR team with shared general duties such as customer requests, greenhouse gas emissions calculations, etc.
- Develop relationships with internal stakeholders to facilitate data collection and compliance
- Work closely with the global EHS team to develop, share, and support new programs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 2 – 5 years of engineering or project management experience, preferably with exposure to sustainability, energy, or environmental initiatives.
- Basic knowledge of LCA, GHG accounting, and Corporate Social Responsibility
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to an evolving field
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
Salary Range:
$65,000 to $85,000, depending on experience, education, and industry experience.
