Role Description

CCACC Academy is seeking an experienced, engaging, and responsible Learning to Cook Camp Instructor to lead our Little Chefs Academy: Culinary Creativity summer camp. This camp is designed to introduce students to age-appropriate cooking skills, kitchen safety, food preparation, creativity, teamwork, and confidence in the kitchen.

The instructor will lead hands-on cooking lessons, guide students through daily recipes and food-based activities, and create a fun, safe, structured, and welcoming camp environment. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with elementary-age students, managing a classroom or kitchen-style learning space, and adapting lessons for different student skill levels.

This is an in-person summer camp instructor role based in Rockville, MD. The instructor is expected to prepare daily lesson activities, support safe food handling, supervise students during cooking projects, and help students build independence, confidence, and creativity through food.



Camp Schedule

Applicants should be available for the following weeks:

Week 7: August 3–August 7

Days: 5 days

Hours: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

Week 8: August 10–August 14

Camp: Little Chefs Academy: Culinary Creativity

Days: 5 days

Hours: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

Week 9: August 17–August 21

Camp: Little Chefs Academy: Culinary Creativity

Days: 5 days

Hours: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

Availability for all three weeks is strongly preferred.



Key Responsibilities

Design and deliver engaging, hands-on cooking lessons appropriate for elementary-age students.

Lead students through daily recipes, food preparation activities, and creative culinary projects.

Teach basic kitchen skills, including measuring, mixing, assembling, safe cutting practices when appropriate, cleaning, and organizing work areas.

Introduce students to kitchen safety, food hygiene, allergy awareness, and respectful shared-space expectations.

Create a positive and structured classroom environment where all campers feel welcome, supported, and included.

Adjust lessons as needed for different ages, skill levels, learning styles, and student needs.

Prepare and organize materials, ingredients, tools, and classroom setup before each lesson.

Supervise students closely during all cooking and food-preparation activities.

Maintain cleanliness and safety throughout the instructional space.

Support student teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and confidence-building.

Communicate any classroom, behavior, safety, or supply concerns to camp administration in a timely manner.

Help document student projects and camp highlights when needed for camp reports or parent communication.

Work collaboratively with camp administrators, assistants, volunteers, and other staff.



Qualifications Required

Experience teaching, coaching, or working with children in a classroom, camp, after-school, or enrichment setting.

Experience with cooking instruction, culinary education, food preparation, family cooking, nutrition education, or related hands-on learning.

Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.

Ability to lead safe, structured, and age-appropriate food activities.

Strong understanding of kitchen safety, cleanliness, and basic food-handling expectations.

Ability to create or adapt simple, student-friendly recipes and lesson plans.

Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

Ability to maintain a calm, positive, and professional environment with students.

Must be reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the scheduled camp weeks.

Must be able to complete any required onboarding, background check, and camp staff training requirements.



Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience teaching cooking classes or leading culinary camps for children.

Experience working with elementary-age students.

Knowledge of food allergies, dietary restrictions, and safe food substitution practices.

Experience developing weekly cooking themes, recipes, or culinary projects.

Ability to incorporate creativity, culture, nutrition, science, or storytelling into cooking lessons.

Experience working in a summer camp, school, after-school, or youth enrichment program.

CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
