We are seeking a highly experienced DGSun / Business Basic Engineer with deep, recent, hands-on development expertise in Basis International technologies, particularly Progression/5, Pro/5, BBx, Business Basic, and BBj.
The engineer will work on an established custom application environment, develop new features and capabilities, support system-to-system integrations, and troubleshoot application and data issues. The successful candidate must be comfortable learning a codebase developed by others, building solutions from formal specifications, and working within a structured software development lifecycle.
This is primarily a hands-on development role, not a production-support or maintenance-only position. BBj is currently used mainly for integrations rather than graphical user-interface development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications built using Progression/5, Pro/5, BBx, Business Basic, and BBj.
- Spend the majority of the assignment actively developing new functionality, features, and system capabilities.
- Develop and maintain integrations into and out of Pro/5-based systems using technologies such as:
- HTTP
- XML
- RPC
- Use BBj to support system-to-system integrations rather than primarily developing graphical user interfaces.
- Analyze and become productive in a large, customized codebase developed by other engineers.
- Translate functional and technical specifications into reliable application components.
- Participate in a formal SDLC, including requirements review, development, testing, release, and documentation activities.
- Use Microsoft SQL Server and write SQL queries for analysis, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose integration, application, and data-related issues.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders while following established development standards.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of recent, hands-on development experience with Basis International languages and technologies, including:
- Progression/5
- Pro/5
- BBx
- Business Basic
- Business Basic for Java, BBj
- The candidate must currently be, or have recently been, actively developing in these technologies.
- Approximately 80% of the candidate’s relevant experience should involve active development of new features or capabilities, rather than break-fix work, small enhancements, or production support.
- Demonstrated experience developing integrations into and out of a Pro/5 environment using HTTP, XML, RPC, or similar mechanisms.
- Experience understanding and enhancing a custom codebase that the candidate did not originally develop.
- Experience developing solutions from specifications prepared by other team members.
- Experience working in a formal SDLC environment.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Ability to create SQL queries to investigate and troubleshoot application or data issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the hospitality or vacation-ownership industry.
- Development experience using both Progression/5 and BBj for system-to-system integrations.
- Unix or Linux shell-scripting experience.
- Experience with other Business Basic variants, such as:
- Thoroughbred BASIC
- ProvideX / PxPlus
- MAI OpenBasic
- Experience using external logging or application-monitoring platforms such as:
- Splunk
- Dynatrace
