We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Elder Law Paralegal to support attorneys in a busy elder law practice. The ideal candidate will have experience assisting with estate planning, probate and estate administration, guardianships, Medicaid planning, long-term care planning, and related legal matters. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong client service, and the ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with all aspects of elder law matters, including estate planning, probate, trust administration, guardianships, conservatorships, and Medicaid planning.
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Advance Healthcare Directives, Living Wills, Guardianship Petitions, Probate Pleadings, Deeds, and related filings.
- Prepare, review, and file court documents in accordance with state and local court rules.
- Assist with probate and estate administration from initial filing through final distribution.
- Support trust administration by preparing notices, inventories, accountings, and beneficiary correspondence.
- Collect, organize, and maintain financial, medical, and legal documentation required for Medicaid eligibility and long-term care planning.
- Coordinate execution of estate planning documents, including arranging witnesses and notary services.
- Communicate professionally with clients, family members, financial institutions, healthcare providers, government agencies, courts, and opposing counsel.
- Maintain attorney calendars, monitor deadlines, schedule appointments, and track case progress.
- Open new client matters, conduct conflict checks, maintain electronic and physical client files, and ensure accurate document management.
- Assist with asset transfers, beneficiary designations, deed preparation, and funding of trusts.
- Prepare correspondence, engagement letters, and client communications.
- Perform legal research related to elder law, probate procedures, Medicaid regulations, and estate planning.
- Assist with billing, time entry, and administrative tasks as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality while providing compassionate service to elderly clients and their families.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred; Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program is a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience in elder law, estate planning, probate, trust administration, or related practice areas.
- Strong knowledge of probate procedures, estate planning documents, guardianships, conservatorships, and Medicaid eligibility.
- Experience drafting legal documents with minimal attorney supervision.
- Familiarity with court filing procedures and probate court practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential client information with professionalism and empathy.
