Medical Laboratory Technician/Phlebotomist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood, urine, or saliva specimens from patients for laboratory testing. The Phlebotomist must ensure that specimens are accurately collected, properly labeled, and prepared for delivery to contracted laboratory. The role requires technical skill, attention to detail, patient interaction, and compliance with safety and infection-control standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all

ages, using sterile, aseptic techniques.

• Verify patient identity, explain blood draw procedures, and ensure proper specimen collection procedures.
• Label, process, and prepare specimens accurately for delivery to contracted provider
• Collect non-blood specimens, such as urine or saliva, and provide collection instructions to patients.
• Maintain specimen integrity and follow laboratory protocols.
• Enter patient and specimen information into electronic systems.
• Follow infection-control, safety, and quality-assurance procedures.
• Maintain supplies and collection equipment.
• Provide professional and compassionate patient care.
• Assist with administrative and clerical duties as needed.
• Comply with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with certification preferred, such as CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) from the National Health career Association (NHA), or American Medical Technologist (AMT)
• Knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen handling.
• Basic computer skills.
• Previous phlebotomy experience in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory setting.

• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
• CPR/BLS certification required (or obtained within designated timeframe).

• Outpatient clinical environment within a CCBHC setting.
• Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Exposure to medical equipment, bodily fluids, and fast-paced clinical operations.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, and travel to other locations as needed to support clinic needs
