Description:
This is primarily routine manual work calling for the efficient and economical performance of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks.
Work is performed under general supervision according to established procedures.
A Cleaner does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

• Sweeps and mops floors and stairs.
• Dust chairs, tables, and other furniture.
• Washes windows, walls, sinks, and other fixtures.
• Polishes furniture and metal furnishings.
• Empties waste baskets, collects and disposes of rubbish.
• Waxes floors.
• Moves and arranges chairs, tables, and other furnishings and equipment.
• Cleans clothes, equipment, and other laundry items using washing and drying machines.
• May load and unload materials, parts, or products manually or using a hoist.
• May shovel snow from sidewalks, stairs, and other passages.
• May direct facility users to appropriate areas and observe their conduct to report violations to facility rules.
• May open, close, and check building security windows, locks, and doors.
• May collect, fold, and distribute laundry and linen items.
• May perform minor maintenance tasks.
• May operate motor vehicle to travel from one work site to another.

Special Requirement for Appointment in School Districts/BOCES: Per regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.

Salary:
$16.31 per hour

Qualifications:

• High school diploma
• Commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Experience with floor cleaning equipment a plus.
• Valid NYS Driver License.
