Context
Catholic Memorial is a college preparatory school for boys founded in the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice and guided by the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brothers Education. The Head of Athletics & Performance serves as a mission-driven leader who oversees and advances Catholic Memorial’s comprehensive athletics program, guiding students in their academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary development. Rooted in the Edmund Rice tradition, this role ensures that every student is known, supported, and empowered to discern his purpose and pursue a meaningful life beyond Catholic Memorial.
•Strategic Leadership: Oversees entire program, ensuring alignment with school mission and values.
•Visibility: Provides active, daily presence on campus with a focus on, but not restricted to, athletic practices and events across all sports and grade levels.
•Wellness Integration: Develops and implements a broad, school-wide program of physical well-being (exercise, nutrition, health, etc.) for all students, encouraging life-long habits of wellness.
•Academic Synergy: Seeks and develops entry points to integrate health and wellness themes into the academic program.
•Coaching Standards: Establishes a standard in sports that prioritizes transformational coaching ensuring CM sports are a pathway to growth, empathy, and character development as well as competitive gain.
•Defining Success: Develops and expects a program-wide definition of "success" that goes beyond the scoreboard, holding coaches accountable for the personal and ethical development of their student-athletes in alignment with the school’s values.
•Student Well-Being: Leads the coaching staff in ensuring the athletic environment fosters safety and psychological well-being alongside physical performance.
•Fan/Spectator Expectations: Ensures student and community spectator behavior that reflects the mission of Catholic Memorial, MIAA expectations, and the best qualities of good sportsmanship.
•Internal Communication: Serves as the liaison to Leadership Team, Admissions, Faculty, and Guidance.
•External Representation: Communicates with peer school ADs regarding high-level league matters.
•Compliance & Governance: Manages MIAA Compliance and Governance (Form 200, Waivers, etc.).
•Student Eligibility: Manages student eligibility across health/wellness, academic, and disciplinary domains.
•Medical Oversight: Oversees Medical & Training Staff, ensuring all safety protocols, concussion management, and emergency action plans are executed.
•Financial Management: Oversees budget and finance of Athletic Program including purchasing approvals and capital planning.
•Personnel Management: Acts as final decision-maker on hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of all coaches and staff.
•Family Relations: Handles high-level communication with families regarding escalations and disciplinary issues.
Qualifications:
•Minimum of 5 years of teaching or administrative experience in middle or secondary education
•Demonstrated success in leading and developing administrative teams
•Proven ability to contribute strategically to institutional planning and operations across multiple functional areas
•Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the ability to articulate and advance the Catholic mission
•Deep understanding of adolescent male development and effective strategies for educating young men
•Proven experience in curriculum development, faculty supervision, and student formation
•Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
•Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders — students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community
•Willingness and ability to maintain a robust presence at school events, including evenings and weekends, demonstrating commitment to the full life of the school community
Salary Range: $ 90,000-$120,000
