Physician Assistant – Vascular Surgery


Vascular Surgery Team (collaborating with Dr. Koullias and fellow vascular specialists)


Position Overview

Serve as a pivotal member of the vascular surgery team—providing both clinical and operative support in close partnership with vascular surgeons like Dr. Koullias. This role exists at the intersection of patient care, surgical assistance, and interdisciplinary collaboration.


Dr. George J. Koullias, MD is a board-certified vascular surgeon with Catholic Health on Long Island, NY. He serves as System Chief of Limb Preservation and Vascular Surgery and is known for his expertise in minimally invasive vascular procedures and complex wound care.

Dr. Koullias completed his medical degree at Aristotle University in Greece, followed by surgical training at institutions including Yale-New Haven Hospital and Stony Brook University. He also holds board certification in Vascular Surgery and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Stony Brook.

He leads several advanced care programs, including the Center for Limb Preservation and Wound Care. Dr. Koullias is highly regarded for his patient-centered approach and his work in improving outcomes for patients with peripheral artery disease and non-healing wounds.

Dr. Lisa Terrana, MD – Vascular Surgeon

Dr. Lisa Terrana is a highly skilled vascular surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases, including conditions affecting the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system. With extensive training and experience in both open surgical and minimally invasive endovascular procedures, Dr. Terrana offers expert care for patients suffering from conditions like aneurysms, peripheral artery disease (PAD), carotid artery disease, varicose veins, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Dr. Terrana is known for her compassionate approach to patient care, emphasizing individualized treatment plans that focus on long-term health and quality of life. She is dedicated to providing cutting-edge vascular treatments and is committed to helping patients understand their condition and treatment options.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Terrana is actively involved in patient education, community outreach, and advancing the field of vascular surgery through participation in research and medical conferences.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Patient Evaluation & Management
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments: medical histories, physical exams, diagnostic interpretation.
  2. Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with Dr. Koullias and team
  3. Surgical Assistance
    • First-assist in both open and endovascular vascular surgeries.
    • Prepare patients, maintain sterile technique, and support surgical procedures
  4. Pre- & Post-Operative Care
    • Manage patient education, consent, and surgical prep.
    • Oversee post-op recovery, monitor for complications, and guide rehabilitation
  5. Collaboration & Communication
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, radiologists, and anesthesiologists.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding their vascular conditions and treatment plans
  6. Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate surgical notes, progress reports, and treatment documentation.
    • Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program.
  • Licensed PA in New York State with NCCPA certification (PA‑C)
  • BLS and ACLS (and AED) certification through AHA (no online certification accepted)
  • DEA registration required if managing discharges or prescribing medications
  • Vascular surgery experience preferred; however, new graduates with relevant electives or clinical experience will be considered

Salary Range

USD $69.54 - USD $97.56 /Hr.
