Title: Controller Reports to: School President Overview: Our Lady of the Elms School is an independent, faith based, all-girls school in Akron, Ohio. The Controller is the staff person responsible for working closely with the school President and the Board of Trustees to ensure the legal, ethical, and sustainable financial practices of the school.
Responsibilities: Manages all accounting transactions and financial reporting; verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable Audits financial documents and procedures Maintains effective relationships with financial service providers Coordinates with admissions in supporting enrollment and financial aid Collaborates with the academic dean, human resources, along with development, technology and facilities management Prepares reports for the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees Supports Parents’
Association Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Work experience as an Accountant Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail along with effective analytical and organizational skills Hands on experience of computer applications related to business office job functions, including Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Skilled Team player who can discern when to lead or follow Strong knowledge of school management including finance and non-educational systems that support the School’s institutional strength and future viability Knowledge of fundraising systems and practices Ability to effectively negotiate in a way that supports the interests and mission of the School Credentials and Expertise: Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in business administration, school administration, or a related field. CPA is preferred but not required. Five years’ experience in finance or accounting. Experience in the not-for-profit sector is a plus but not required. A candidate must pass a Criminal Background Check and upon employment become VIRTUS trained.
