What you will be doing

The Nurturing Parenting Family Support Specialist utilizes a two-generational (2Gen) approach working with families facing challenges by providing services and education, comprehensive support to access community services and promotes whole family well-being through classes, resource connections, referrals, assessments, and educational facilitation. The family support specialist will assume the role of advocate for the parent and child as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist with outreach and recruits’ participants to the program and finds strategies to engage and retain participants.

· Implement the Nurturing Parenting Program approved curriculums.

· Complete intake paperwork and documentation, ensure all program records are maintained in a confidential manner.

· Prepares and facilitates all assigned classes and leads discussions about the learning material to assigned groups of parents/participants.

· Make referrals to internal and external agencies and follow up on referrals as appropriate.

· Monitors and reviews the design, organization, establishment, and evaluation of work processes to ensure delivery of program services and to fulfill program objectives for the NP Program.

· Creates a culture of respect and judgment-free zone among participants and works to resolve complaints/conflicts between/among parents and staff.

· Culturally effective capabilities for varying cultural characteristics and beliefs.

· Maintaining an efficient detailed and accurate record keeping system for participant’s progress.

· Cleans up after each class, including but not limited to vacuuming, wiping down tables, throwing out trash, checking for open windows, and shutting off lights, appliances, etc.

· Advocate and perform specialized outreach to parents while collaborating with human services, community services and resources within the Pueblo community such as mental health, substance abuse treatment centers, Housing, adult education, etc.

· Attend Family Support Team meetings and provide support to families.

· Ensure agency compliance with all contractual and audit requirements for program

· Other duties as assigned by Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Knowledge of resources in the community. Existing working relationships with resource agencies are strongly preferred.

· Demonstrate a high degree of customer service and relationship building abilities.

· Ability to work independently as well as part of an extended, cross functional team.

· Ability to work evenings and Saturdays.

· Strong public speaking and experience presenting to small and large groups of people.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills.

· Self-confident facilitator with the ability to enthusiastically engage and energize participants.

· Creative problem solver.

· Excellent time management/organizational skills, managing different databases and meeting multiple deadlines.

· Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft Office 365, Zoom and Microsoft Teams).

· Ability to serve as a role model (positive attitude, professional dress, demeanor, and behavior).

· Understanding of family support and strengthening, trauma informed response.

· Ability to remain calm and to work and handle crisis and secondary trauma of distressed or highly emotional clients.

· Ability to understand and implement the Five Protective Factors.

Education and Experience:

· Associate’s degree in human services or related field required; bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.

· Minimum 2 years of experience working with families and facilitation experience.

· Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

· Extensive experience facilitating groups and handling difficult conversations with diverse populations.

· Use of a personal vehicle with up-to-date driver’s license, insurance, and Colorado registration. Must have a clean driving record.
