JOB SUMMARY: Provide coverage of Center for Help and Hope Shelter facility. Ensures smooth and compliant operations of the shelter, including on-site activities, residents’ behavior, safety and well-being and adherence to policies. Provides indirect leadership to House Support Specialist team members and assists the Program Manager with other duties as requested.


JOB DUTIES: 

  1. Follow established procedures to assist in check-in and check-out process, coordinating bed assignments, and monitoring compliance with house rules.
  2. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with agency personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, shift scheduling, 1:1 supervision, etc.  
  3. Collect and submit monthly shelter reports.
  4. Responsible for providing shift coverage and participating in assigned on-call rotations, in collaboration with leadership, to ensure appropriate staffing, operational continuity, and timely response to needs.
  5. Conduct regular client living area inspections. Inspect cleanliness of the living spaces and inform clients of deficiencies and provide opportunities for life skills education. Ensure compliance with the personal belongings policy and with extermination of the facility.
  6. Document pertinent shift information and observations.
  7. Mediate conflicts and resolve issues as they arise.
  8. Ensure client compliance with house rules and guidelines.
  9. Work closely with Program and Case Management Supervisors to provide updates on residents and provide accurate nightly bed checks.
  10. Provide crisis intervention and management as needed.
  11. Comply with and assist Program Manager with ensuring staff follow program policies and procedures.
  12. Follow established procedures in maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  13. Conduct regular supply inventory and report supply needs to Program Manager.
  14. Report incidents and concerns during shift to Program Manager.
  15. Attend and participate in bi-monthly case conferencing to refer and advocate for shelter clients to housing and/or veteran programs.
  16. Build a trusting relationship and gain knowledge of the client’s background and circumstances through frequent and informal conversation.
  17. Encourage clients to take ownership of case plans and goals.
  18. Promote and support client-peer counseling efforts.
  19. Enter relevant information in HMIS system, department logs, and emails on a timely basis.
  20. Attends and maintains training as required by agency and helps train new House Support staff.
  21. Provides back-up support to the Program Manager.  
  22. May assist in supporting kitchen services.
  23. Promote ongoing commitment to excellence and continual quality improvement to ensure the highest quality of services for our staff and clients.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education /Background:  Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent plus three or more years of experience working with homeless populations, veterans, substance abuse, mental health.  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred.  One year supervisory experience required..   .  Peer Certification preferred.  
  2. Job Knowledge:  Current knowledge of best practices for working with people experiencing chronic homelessness, veterans, mental health issues and/or substance abuse.  Ability to work with individuals from a diverse background.  Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  3. Working Conditions/Physical Demands:  Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditory assess and interact with clients to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as needed. May need to lift up to 25 pounds.
  4. Other requirements:
    1. Valid AZ driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to show proof of registration/insurance.
    2. You must be 21 years of age or older to drive on behalf of Catholic Charities.
    3. Level One Fingerprint clearance or ability to obtain fingerprint clearance; must maintain clearance.
    4. Must have or complete within 90 days of hire, training in CPR and First Aid and remain current in the certification.
    5. Possesses or acquires, and maintains, valid Maricopa County Environmental Services Food Service Worker Certificate


 

Hourly rate starting at $17/hour and may increase depending on experience.
