What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Truck Mechanic position at Catholic Cemeteries of Chicago?
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Manager, Fleet Services with respect to all cemetery automotive and truck equipment:
- Diagnose and correct mechanical defects using test instruments.
- Disassemble, repair and reassemble gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic, differential, transmission and electrical systems, fuel systems, suspension systems, clutches and brakes.
- Repair and align front end components.
- Repair and refinish bodies, including painting, metal fabrication, and welding.
- Identify causative factors arising from improper and faulty operation of equipment and advise the supervisor accordingly.
- Instruct equipment operators in the proper operation, care and maintenance of equipment.
- Participate in fleet equipment analysis and replacement recommendations.
- Maintain time, production, parts and maintenance records as required.
- Discharge related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the ability to operate a vehicle with a GCWR of 26,000 or greater.
- Ability to work and exercise judgment independently.
- Ability to maintain neat and accurate maintenance records as needed.
- Ability to maintain a neat and orderly shop area and manage time effectively.
- Ability to stand on concrete and potentially uneven surfaces, including frequent squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting up to 100 lbs. as necessary.
- Ability to work under various weather conditions, including outdoors and indoors with grease, oil and other chemical substances as required.
- Ability to fulfill the established hours of the position.
- Ability to speak and write English and communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
- Knowledge in the proper use of all diagnostic and cemetery equipment.
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED certificate, with specialized school and shop training in mechanical and automotive maintenance and repair.
- Practicing Catholic with a Catholic educational background preferred.
- At least five years of experience as an auto or truck mechanic, with the ability to read mechanical drawings and sketches.
- Knowledge and ability to use the specialized tools necessary to repair and maintain a variety of older and newer vehicles and equipment.
- ASE Certified in various automotive areas
