JOB DESCRIPTION: The Youth Development Professional is responsible for planning and conducting activities which provide developmental experiences for children such as Education/Academic Enhancement, Social Recreation, Arts & Craft, Healthy Lifestyles, Leadership, Outdoor/Environmental Awareness, and Physical Education. This position is responsible for the health, safety, and personal welfare of assigned children. This position reports to the Suuk Yap (Teen Center) Site Manager.

This position supports the CIN Mission, Vision, and Goals by being an important part of a team that gives tribal children continued care in a healthy safe environment.

This position is responsible to and subject to the CIN Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Create an environment that promotes and stimulates program participation
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for teens (ages 11-18)  
  • Monitor and evaluate programs and activities to ensure the safety of members and quality of care.
  • Ensure a productive and safe environment by participating in staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Promote physical, mental, and social development
  • Observe children’s interactions to maintain safety
  • Assist in maintaining order and tracking of children throughout their day at the center
  • Performs other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to establish and maintain proper conduct with children and teens.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to motivate youth and provide support.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise teens in a safe environment.
  • Ability to work in a team setting

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must posses Valid State Driver’s License and be insurable under the Catawba Nations insurance policy.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Previous experience working with youth.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Previous experience in implementing a Youth Program is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with teens (ages 10-18) is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain effective, professional, and courteous working relationships and demeanor with other employees and the public at all times

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend so as to open/use lower drawers or cabinetry; to talk, hear, and see. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

 

Catawba Indian Nation exercises INDIAN PREFERENCE  

Native American Indian preference shall apply to this position pursuant to the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (24 U.S.C. 450, et seq.), 25 CFR 271.44 and other relevant laws (title 25, U.S. code, Section 472 & 473).
