Position Summary
Catawba Nation’s Division of Environmental Protections is seeking a farm and market crew member who has a strong understanding of growing produce year-round and is a person who can interact with customers. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, independent, and an efficient worker who will work at Black Snake Farm assisting with planting, harvesting, washing, and distributing produce. This crew member will also prepare for and work a bi- weekly farmers’ market held on Friday’s and Saturdays. The position will work under the direct supervision of the farmer’s Market Lead and work closely with the Black Snake Farm Lead. A successful farm and market crew member will have a passion for community welfare and indigenous food sovereignty.
Essential Functions
An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Assisting with planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, and sorting crops at Black Snake Farm.
- Assisting in planning, preparing, and stocking for the farmer’s market on Fridays.
- Work at the farmers' market and assisting customers on Saturdays.
- Assisting with food preservation post-market.
- Keeping records of farmer’s market participants and distributed food.
- Adhering to health and safety regulations and Black Snake Farm standard of production.

Qualifications:Qualifications
- Current driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- 1 year of farming or gardening experience
- 1 year of customer service experience
- Experience:
- Customer service experience in a grocery store setting.
- Experience in growing produce using organic/regenerative principles.
- A passion for local food, agriculture, and indigenous food sovereignty.
- Demonstrated good organizational and record keeping skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with diverse groups.
Education: High School Diploma/ GED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Computer Skills with programs such as excel, word, and outlook.
- Food Safety Knowledge
- Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work in harsh weather conditions
- Knowledge Pertaining to livestock
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Will be required to work Saturdays at the farmers’ market. If working on a Saturday, the crew member will be allowed to take off a workday that does not interfere with their work.
- Will be expected to work in the field including hard repetitive physical work.
- May be required to work overtime and outside normal business hours during special events or projects.
