Catawba County Public Health is recruiting a detail-oriented professional with strong customer service skills to fill the role of Program Assistant for the Adult Health Eligibility team, supporting the Women’s Preventive Health Clinic. This position plays a vital front-line role in ensuring a positive patient experience through high-quality customer service, accurate eligibility determination, and efficient appointment management. The Program Assistant will assist a diverse community of patients seeking admission in Public Health, which may include Spanish-speaking individuals.
Qualified candidates must be fluent in English and Spanish. Bilingual extra duty pay is provided.
- Conduct patient intake by guiding individuals through electronic consent forms, verifying eligibility based on income and insurance, and collecting required documentation
- Collect payments and maintain accurate financial records
- Schedule, confirm, and manage appointments via phone, email, walk-ins, and voicemail
- Check patients in and out using the electronic medical record system, ensuring accurate data entry and documentation
- Provide courteous, responsive front desk and customer service support to patients, including those with limited English proficiency
- Run and review daily reports (e.g., appointment schedules, payment summaries) to support clinic operations
- Assist with pharmacy preferences and support providers in electronic prescribing
- Operate standard office equipment and participate in safety trainings, drills, and emergency preparedness protocols
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, 3 years of clerical experience, preferably in a public health or medical office, and bilingual fluency in English and Spanish; OR
- Associate’s degree in Human Services, Medical Office, or Business Administration, 1 year of clerical experience, preferably in a public health or medical office, and bilingual fluency in English and Spanish
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic data entry
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinic with frequent interruptions
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Ability to interpret local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations for use in carrying out daily job responsibilities
- This is considered light work, lifting up to 20 pounds frequently, which could include supplies, medical records, etc.
