Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Solder Assembler / PCB Rework Technician to support the assembly, repair, and rework of complex electronic circuit boards in a precision manufacturing environment. This position requires advanced hands-on experience with SMT and through-hole soldering, component replacement, and PCB rework using specialized equipment and inspection tools.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with high-complexity printed circuit boards, performing rework on fine-pitch and bottom-terminated components, and verifying workmanship through visual and X-ray inspection techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform SMT and through-hole assembly on complex printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Remove, replace, and repair electronic components including BGAs, QFNs, LGAs, and other fine-pitch devices.
- Operate hot-air rework stations, hot plates, soldering stations, and related rework equipment.
- Follow component-specific thermal profiles for preheat, reflow, and cooling processes.
- Inspect solder joints using microscopes, X-ray equipment, and other quality inspection methods.
- Interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, assembly documentation, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Identify and correct solder-related defects such as solder bridges, voids, insufficient solder, and tombstoning.
- Document inspection findings and rework activities according to quality requirements.
- Maintain ESD-safe work practices and adhere to all manufacturing and safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to assembly and rework processes.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on SMT and through-hole soldering experience.
- Proven experience performing PCB rework and component replacement.
- Experience working with BGA, QFN, LGA, or other bottom-terminated components.
- Ability to work under a microscope for extended periods.
- Experience using hot-air rework stations and other advanced soldering equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and BOMs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Willingness to complete a pre-employment medical evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with X-ray inspection equipment.
- Familiarity with AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) systems.
- Experience troubleshooting PCB assembly and solder defects.
- IPC certification experience (current certification not required).
- Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, semiconductor, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing environments.
