Job Description
As a Commissioning Coordinator, you'll be the central orchestrator ensuring all commissioning activities run smoothly and on schedule for a critical mission-critical construction project. This role demands someone who can take ownership of the master commissioning schedule, drive communication across multiple stakeholders, and ensure that every milestone is met with precision. Working on-site in Ashburn, VA, you'll coordinate field teams, validate trade readiness, and lead commissioning coordination meetings that keep complex MEP systems on track.
Your work will directly impact the successful delivery of mission-critical infrastructure, requiring you to bridge the gap between subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and owner representatives. You'll supplement the project team by organizing the proper planning, installation, startup, and commissioning of key MEP equipment in data center environments. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced construction environments, excels at coordination and communication, and has deep knowledge of MEP systems in mission-critical facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the master commissioning schedule and ensure alignment with the P6 schedule
- Provide weekly executive summaries and commissioning updates to the project team
- Coordinate field team workload and ensure commissioning milestones are met
- Validate trade readiness ahead of commissioning activities (L3–L5)
- Drive communication between subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agent, and owner representatives
- Lead all commissioning coordination meetings, including agenda preparation and issue escalation
- Coordinate commissioning documentation with subcontractors, vendors, and commissioning agents
- Track MEP related MOPs and cutover activities for assigned projects
- Process vendor startup and commissioning activities
- Support and schedule 3D Model coordination for assigned projects
- Assist Project Management Team with preconstruction MEP information management
- Review MEP submittals prior to submission and provide potential solutions for MEP-related RFIs
- Track MEP construction progress and work with subcontractors and vendors to close punch list items
- Assist with organizing MEP client training
- Provide guidance and mentoring to MEP team members on MEP concepts and installation details
Required Experience/Skills
- Proven experience in commissioning coordination for mission-critical or data center construction projects
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) in mission-critical environments
- Experience with master commissioning schedule development and maintenance
- Proficiency with P6 scheduling software
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and owner representatives
- Strong understanding of commissioning documentation requirements and processes
- Knowledge of startup and commissioning procedures for critical MEP equipment
- Experience with 3D modeling coordination and MEP submittal review
- Understanding of MOPs (Method of Procedures) and cutover activities
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in fast-paced construction environments
- Excellent communication and meeting facilitation skills
- Ability to validate trade readiness and ensure milestone completion
- Experience with punch list closure and quality control processes
- Ability to start immediately
