JOB TITLE: Maintenance Worker
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance
STATUS: 12 months
SUMMARY: The job Maintenance was established to provide a safe, attractive, clean and healthy environment for learning and work by performing inspections, maintenance and repairs for the students, staff and community in school buildings and grounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas and as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance and in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations
- Ensure that the work site and conditions are safe
- Perform assignments relating to ensuring all schools and district sites are able to safely open and function when assigned. This includes working cooperatively with custodial employees during emergency operations
- Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately
- Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs
- Use the work order system, making sure that work orders have been written and approved before performing tasks, except in emergency situations.
- Keep a log of all maintenance functions and repairs performed
- Recommend repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope of responsibilities, skill, or experience, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractor
- Ensure that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws are observed and exceeded
- Maintain an adequate supply of parts and supplies usually used in repairs, and request needed supplies through the established procedures of the district
- Operate and maintain in a safe and operational condition all tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities
- Remove snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps
- Report immediately any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.
- Make recommendations for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance operations of the district
- Attend required meetings, including Right-To-Know and Safety Training, and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees
- Display a cooperative and pleasant attitude at all times, particularly when in the presence of staff, students, and community visitors
- Notify and assist the administration and appropriate emergency personnel with any emergency, and potentially dangerous or unusual situations
- Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate heavy power equipment
- Ability to use, sharpen and make minor repairs to tools and equipment
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Working knowledge of ground preparation and maintenance
- Skills to transport tractors and other maintenance equipment
- Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in electrical installation, maintenance and repair work
- Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment
- Skills in the use of tools and equipment utilized in the repair of ventilation, air conditioning and environmental control equipment
- Working knowledge of road maintenance and construction procedures
- Skills in the use and care of equipment and tools used in the painting trade
- Some knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the painting trade
- Skills in the performance of duties related to the plumbing trade
- Some knowledge of methods of carpentry work
- Ability to follow oral instructions with little need for repetition
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or more at times.
