Position Summary:

The Radiological Technologist performs routine radiographic examinations to patients of all ages consistently demonstrating knowledge and practice of radiation safety. Assisting in maintaining patient records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.

May also perform the following duties:

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure their understanding and cooperation.
  • Performs all routine radiographic procedures and views per department procedure manual. Practices within current standards of performance and protocol guidelines.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment and wears their name and dosimetry badge
  • Confirms patient identification, consults with radiologist/other physicians regarding exams
  • Performs and/or assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures
  • Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation orders/checks requisition for physician notes/special instructions
  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of radiographic equipment including CR and PACS
  • Provides radiation protection; uses appropriate lead shielding and follows radiation safety practices
  • Uses identifying markers, correlates images with inserts, ensures completion of patient/exam information prior to sending to PACS - edits PACS when required
  • Demonstrates motivation and initiative to assist in other modalities or functions within the department
  • Files and retrieves films, breaks-down jackets, and performs office duties in absence of clerical staff.
  • Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory; prepares and maintains room
  • Follows appropriate infection control techniques and prevents cross-contamination to patients
  • Understands the preparation of contrast media, consent forms, and patient questioners. Possesses a knowledge of adverse reactions and works under the direction of a registered and licensed technologist.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, families, physicians, and other health care personnel regarding patient care. Promotes positive interpersonal relations. Works with other departments to improve services and promote customer service.
  • Reviews and edits ordered studies for appropriateness; assists other units for ordering appropriate studies; utilizes resources within the department
  • Retrieves and calls reports to physicians, offices, patient-care units, surgery and ER upon request

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology and ARRT Registration required
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire
  • License: Utah Radiologic Technologist and Technician. Additionally, licensed by ARRT. The following are required of each level of Radiology Tech:
      • Radiology Tech I: Practical Tech with current Utah State License does not require (ARRT)
      • Radiology Tech II: Radiology Tech (ARRT)(R) Performing General X-ray
      • Radiology Tech Ill: RT and competent in CT
      • Radiology Tech IV: RT and competent in NM or US, or registered in mammography or competent in MRI
      • Radiology Tech V: Registered in US (single registry) or registered in CT or performing mammo QC registered in MRI
      • Radiology Tech VI: Registered in US(single registry) plus one of the following:
        • Registered in mammo Competent in CT
        • Competent in MRI or Registered in MRI
      • Radiology Tech VII: Registered in two US modalities or registered in NM ARDMS & RDCS or ARDMS & RVT or RDCS & RVT
      • Radiology Tech VIII: Registered in three US modalities, ARDMS & RDCS & RVT or Registered in NM plus mammo or CT registry
      • Radiology Tech IX: Multiple modality tech, registered in five plus registries
