About the Role:
The Staff Accountant supports the Corporate Controller and accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records across corporate and property‑level entities. This role focuses on core accounting functions including general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, accounts payable processing, and financial reporting support. The Staff Accountant works closely with internal teams and third‑party property managers to ensure timely, accurate, and well‑documented financial information and assists with investor distributions, cash management, and construction‑related accounting activities under supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Record partnership‑level and corporate accounting transactions in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Record and reconcile balance sheet accounts including mortgages, escrows, insurance, taxes, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and intercompany balances.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and assist with monitoring daily cash balances across multiple accounts.
- Import third‑party trial balances into Yardi and verify general ledger account mapping.
- Process accounts payable transactions and ensure proper coding, documentation, and attachment retention.
- Organize and maintain accounting files and electronic documentation in accordance with Company standards.
- Assist with tracking investor distributions, member loans, and capital contributions under the direction of the Corporate Controller.
Construction Accounting Support
- Assist with generating construction management fee invoices and tracking collections.
- Maintain organized construction invoice records in shared filing systems.
Cash Management
- Monitor rent sweep accounts and escalate funding issues to senior accounting staff as needed.
- Assist in coordinating transfers between partnership and property‑level bank accounts.
- Prepare weekly cash reports and supporting schedules for internal review.
Intercompany Transactions
- Assist in tracking and reconciling intercompany billback balances and payments.
- Coordinate with third-party accountants to support accurate intercompany general ledger entries.
Tax & Compliance
- Maintain documentation related to personal property tax filings and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate with external tax professionals by gathering and organizing requested financial information.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform additional duties assigned by direct supervisor and upper-level management.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests from Finance and Asset Management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience; real estate or property‑level accounting experience preferred.
- Basic familiarity with investment, property‑level, and corporate accounting concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established processes accurately.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with Yardi preferred.
- Effective organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and third‑party partners.
- Professional handling of confidential financial information.
Pay Range: $30.00- $32.00 per hour
