What You’ll Do

As a Phlebotomist / Laboratory Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting laboratory operations and providing exceptional patient care. You will be responsible for collecting and processing specimens accurately, assisting patients, and ensuring quality service throughout the testing process. In this role, you will:

  • Positively identify patients, specimens, and substances collected for testing to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
  • Collect blood specimens using established phlebotomy procedures and maintain an acceptable success rate.
  • Process laboratory specimens accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Greet and assist patients while providing a positive, professional experience and excellent customer service.
  • Prioritize specimen collection and processing based on patient and facility needs, including urgent and emergent situations.
  • Perform clerical, cleaning, and operational tasks necessary to support efficient laboratory operations.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other departments regarding patient testing and specimen processing needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with patients, providers, and team members to support quality patient care.
  • Perform Chain of Custody (COC) collections according to established protocols, if certified.
  • Assist with maintaining adequate laboratory supply inventory.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and support departmental performance goals.
  • Complete required competency documentation and pursue continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Licenses & Certifications

  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification

Preferred Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in a healthcare-related field
