Part-Time Community Support Specialist Job Description
Casper Pride is a community-driven nonprofit serving LGBTQ people and allies in Casper and central Wyoming. Our center offers a welcoming space with a community library, food pantry, and the Qloset (free clothing and essentials), plus resource navigation, events, and wellness support.
We’re seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized and reliable person to run open center hours. You’ll be the first friendly face guests meet, keep the space organized and safe, connect people to resources, coordinate volunteers who support center hours, and help with communications like flyers and social posts.
Guest Services
- Greet visitors; orient guests to the library, food pantry, and Qloset.
- Maintain a calm, affirming environment; uphold confidentiality and dignity for all visitors.
- Track visitor intake (log counts, basic needs, referrals) while protecting privacy.
- Answer phone, email, and walk-in questions; route inquiries to staff or volunteers.
Center Operations
- Open/close the center on time; follow checklists for cash/keys, lights, signage, and safety. Prep for evening groups when necessary.
- Keep common areas tidy, restock supplies, and flag facility issues promptly.
- Receive and sort donations; follow labeling and quality guidelines.
- Monitor basic safety and de-escalate respectfully; follow incident and mandatory reporting protocols.
Resource Navigation
- Provide information and referrals to community resources (housing, food, health, mental health, legal, crisis lines, mutual aid, etc.).
- Maintain and update a simple resource list or binder; log referrals made.
- Keep the library app up to date and onboard new guests to the app.
Volunteer Coordination
- Coordinate volunteer coverage to support open center hours; confirm shifts, send reminders, and track attendance.
- Welcome, brief, and assign volunteers to guest greeting, library tidying, pantry/Qloset restocking, and donation sorting.
- Maintain a simple schedule (Google Sheet or similar) and communicate changes promptly to staff and volunteers.
- Provide on-the-spot training using checklists; model friendly, trauma-informed service and clear boundaries.
- Recognize volunteers’ contributions and flag training or support needs.
Communications Support
- Create simple flyers, signs, and digital graphics in Canva (events, hours, closures, drives).
- Assist with social media posting (Facebook/Instagram), stories, and event reminders aligned with our brand voice and accessibility best practices (alt text, clear language).
- Collaborate with staff
- Work with Casper Pride staff to assist in program and event setup
- Help staff coordinate with center needs
Must-haves
- Extremely responsible and reliable; consistent, on-time attendance to run posted hours.
- Outstanding people skills: friendly, nonjudgmental, patient, and trauma-informed.
- Comfort working with LGBTQ people across ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Strong boundaries and confidentiality; good judgment in sensitive situations.
- Canva proficiency (templates, resizing, basic design) and basic social media skills.
- Solid organization: follow checklists, keep logs, manage multiple walk-in needs.
- Must pass a background check.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in community, library, front desk, retail, or nonprofit settings.
- Familiarity with local Casper/Natrona County resources.
- Basic Spanish or ASL.
- De-escalation, CPR/First Aid, or peer support training.
- Part-time, on-site during open center hours (Wed-Friday 2-6pm); some early evenings or occasional weekends.
- Standing, light lifting (up to ~25 lbs) when restocking or sorting donations.
Schedule, Pay, and Work Environment
- Pay: $17/hourly.
- Reports to: Executive Director.
- Doors open on time; guests consistently feel welcomed and respected.
- Often working alone or with volunteers.
- Spaces are tidy, stocked, and safe.
- Accurate visitor and referral logs; clear handoffs to staff when needed.
- Reliable volunteer coverage with clear assignments and appreciative culture.
- Timely, on-brand Canva materials and basic social updates.
