Description
The Psychology Instructor will teach multiple sections of introductory psychology as well as other psychology classes per academic term. This position will require the individual hired to engage in departmental duties, maintain office hours, attend faculty meetings, and serve on college committees as assigned.
As a Casper College faculty member this position requires teaching college courses using a variety of teaching methods in both face to face and digital formats; meeting all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; preparing syllabi for all courses of study; preparing materials to adequately evaluate student progress; reporting grades in a timely manner; maintaining accurate and adequate records; and establishing regular office hours for student consultation.
Our faculty members perform other related duties as assigned which include but are not necessarily limited to: advising students on academic curricula; serving on committees; participating in faculty meetings; providing recommendations for preparation of departmental or school budgets; participating in the development of school curricula; and adhering to all institutional policies.
The faculty member is expected to remain current in their field by reading current literature, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional development conferences.
Essential Duties
- Teach biological psychology, research methods, introductory psychology courses and other classes as assigned.
- Contribute to the education of all students at Casper College as well as students who are majors in psychology.
- Engage in various departmental, school, and administrative duties.
- Maintain office hours.
- Attend department, school, and college meetings.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Keep accurate records.
- Evaluate student performance.
- Contribute to course, program-specific and college-wide outcomes assessment with the Assessment office.
- Participate in on-going curriculum development.
- Advise students.
- Participate in faculty development and student recruitment.
- Additional department, school, and/or college duties may be assigned when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in psychology or closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in psychology
- A commitment to teaching excellence
- A demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness
- Demonstrated competency in teaching in a variety of formats (e.g., face to face, digital, online, and distance education course delivery)
- A commitment to community college education
Desired Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree from an accredited institution
- Related teaching experience in higher education
- Significant research or clinical experience
- Experience teaching and developing digital learning
Supplemental Information
Typical work environment is a classroom and office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday; however, occasional early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Noise levels are usually minimal.
Employee must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Vision requirements are close up with the ability to adjust focus.
