Athletic Director:
1 - To report to the Superintendent of Schools and/or Building Principal
2 - Serves as liaison between athletic staff and administration
3 - To advocate for athletic staff and student-athletes
4 - Develops and monitors the athletic budget
5 - Assists staff members in professional matters as requested or as the need for such assistance
is observed.
6 - Ensures that equipment is properly inventoried and maintained by coaches.
7 - Approves departmental purchases.
8 - Approves athletic schedules developed by coaches.
9 - Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within
the confines of the Rules and By-Laws of the KHSAA
10 - Observes coaches sufficiently in order to make future recommendations in terms of
job expectations and to make recommendations to the school principal as to coaches’ job
assignments.
11 - Resolves conflicts that develop within the Athletic Department.
12 - Helps to arrange return of external booster club year end paperwork
13 - Maintains a current file of student-athletes and participation.
14 - Works with the Principal for determining initial and continuing eligibility of student athletes.
15 - Arranges for a medical doctor or a paramedic and an ambulance at all Varsity football home
games
16 - Represents the school in all athletic business at District, Region and State meetings.
17 - Responsible for the annual review of the Coaches’ Handbook.
18 - Constantly evaluates the program, presents recommendations for changes in athletic
policies from the Athletic Department to the Principal and/or district personnel.
19 - Conducts Title IX Meetings with athletic staff.
20 - Completes all KHSAA mandated paperwork.
21 - Ensures that gate workers are present for revenue sports and that game management staff
is in place.
22 - Helps to make sure that safe environments exist for game competitions.
23 - Helps to ensure that officials are safe and taken care of during contests.
24 - Communicates with opposing coaches and athletic directors
25 - Develops and maintains facility usage schedules and calendars.
26 - Assists coaches with issues that they may have.
27 - Maintains appropriate records as needed by school district and KHSAA.
28 – Helps to ensure that all coaches are properly certified.
29 - Performs certain other duties as the Superintendent or Principal many direct.
