Summer School - Monday, June 29, 2026, through Friday, July 17, 2026. 15 days = 1 planning day 14 instructional days. 7.0 work hours per day. 7:45 am - 3:15 pm with a .50 lunch. July 3rd is non-work/non-paid.

 

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

 

Instruct high school seniors and adult students and in skills and knowledge leading to entry-level employment or further education in Cosmetology related occupations. In-depth instruction will include theory, lab and clinic activities. The instructor will work closely with the Skills Center administrative staff, industry groups and the program advisory committee to continually upgrade the program curriculum and skills competences (outcomes) needed by the students for employment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and teach Cosmetology.
  • Assume student supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
  • Implement the Cosmetology curriculum and evaluate daily instruction units to reflect current industry methods and practices.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with students, staff, parents, and community by modeling respect, cooperation, and professionalism with others, recognizing the personal achievements and professional contributions of others and demonstrating knowledge of a sensitivity toward individuals and groups from all racial, ethnic/cultural, national socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Promote and supervise student leadership (professional development) activities as an integral part of the curriculum.
  • Attend all Cosmetology Committee meetings. Actively seek consultation and advice from the advisory committee about prevailing practices, equipment, and facilities necessary for maintaining up-to-date competences (outcomes) and an up-to-date instructional program.
  • Evaluate student classroom, lab experiences and clinical competencies; maintain appropriate student records and report student progress to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment; safe and pleasant classroom atmosphere and effective classroom management and discipline procedures while maintaining good instructor/student communication and rapport.
  • Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain the instructional facility, equipment, and resources which will serve as a positive model to students and provide a safe working environment.
  • Work with related instructors in the sending high schools and at the community college to maintain program articulation, a good working relationship and a positive Skills Center image.
  • Be an active team member of the Skills Center's cooperative decision making process.
  • Work in cooperation with the Skills Center administration and staff to positively promote the Skills Center, the Cosmetology program, and all Skills Center programs for student recruitment.
  • Participate in in-service activities conducted by the Evergreen Public Schools and the Skills Center Director.
  • Keep current professionally by taking related courses, maintaining involvement in professional organizations, and working in Cosmetology field during summers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Develops cultural competence and a commitment to equity in outcomes and opportunities for adults and students.
  1. Leads for equity towards college and career readiness.
  2. Nurtures a school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
  3. Publically draws attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students with plans to address their elimination.
  4. Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff, informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of six years of Cosmetology work experience.
  • Prior teaching and/or supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to effectively present and teach Cosmetology related skills leading to a state Cosmetology Certificate.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and oral communications with diverse community members to include students, staff, parents and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to respond to and engage with a diverse multi-cultural and multi-racial community, and to work side by side and foster strong, positive relationships with parents, staff, students and the public.
  • Ability to relate to high school seniors and adult students.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an instructional team.
  • Demonstrated ability in positive human relations.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability.
  • Preferred training and/or experience or willingness to take course work to increase knowledge and use of the following:
  1. Anti-Bias, multicultural education
  2. First Aid/CPR Training
  • Qualifies for a Washington State Secondary Career and Technical Education Teaching Certificate that relates to Cosmetology and Work Based Learning.
  • Qualifies for a Type II driving license.
  • Current Washington State Cosmetology Instructor License required.
