POSITION: Prior Authorization Specialist at a multi provider specialty medical clinic.
LOCATION: Salem, Oregon
Position Summary
The Authorization Specialist is responsible for securing and managing prior authorizations for cardiac diagnostic tests, imaging, and procedures. This role ensures accurate insurance verification, timely approval, and seamless coordination between patients, providers, and payors. The ideal candidate is organized, communicative, and experienced with cardiology-related authorization requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain prior authorizations for cardiac services, including echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac imaging, and procedures.
- Verify patient insurance benefits, coverage levels, and eligibility.
- Communicate authorization status to clinical staff, scheduling teams, providers and patients.
- Submit documentation and clinical notes required by payors for approval.
- Track, follow up, and resolve pending, denied, or appealed authorizations.
- Maintain accurate records in the EHR and authorization management systems.
- Collaborate with providers to gather additional medical necessity documentation when needed.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all regulatory requirements.
- Deliver excellent customer service to patients with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2–3 years of experience in medical authorization, billing, or insurance verification
- Knowledge of cardiology procedures and medical terminology
- Familiarity with major insurance providers and prior authorization processes
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Preferred:
- Experience in a cardiology or specialty medical practice
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, NextGen)
- Certification in medical billing/coding (CPC, CCA, or similar)

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
