CASA & CASA IN ACTION SYNOPSIS:

CASA’s mission is to create a more just society by building power and improving the quality of life in working class Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities. Rooted in the collective power of our community, our inclusive, permanent, member-led movement radically transforms communities and systems to ensure the needs, dreams, and aspirations of members are fully met as we strive for justice and full liberation at home and in solidarity with others across the world. CASA has a sister organization, CASA in Action, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.

DEPARTMENT SYNOPSIS:

The Health and Human Services Department responds to the needs of working class Black, Latine, and Indigenous families, utilizing service provision models that promote building the power of the immigrant community. Services provided by the department include outreach and community engagement using popular education methodologies to increase awareness of the social determinants of health; comprehensive needs assessments designed to identify solutions to specific circumstances impacting our members well-being; as well as navigation and enrollment assistance to available public benefits. The HHS Department also contributes to CASA’s advocacy and organizing initiatives to build on community assets to generate positive health outcomes for its members and reverse trends that negatively affect working class families and other immigrants.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CASA’s Manager of Community Health will oversee the regional operations of our community health program, leading a team of Community Health Workers, Hotline Specialist, and Medical Interpretation staff to identify and address the health and social service needs of CASA’s local membership by coordinating access to healthcare services, promoting health education, and building strong community partnerships to improve overall health outcomes within a designated area; essentially acting as a bridge between community members and the healthcare system.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team leadership and supervision:

Manage, train and supervise a team of Community Health Workers, Hotline Specialist, and Medical Interpretation staff, providing training, coaching, and performance evaluations to ensure quality service delivery. Provide leadership to support and encourage effective teamwork among all staff within the Community Health Program, monitor and evaluate project protocols and procedures. Make appropriate adjustments in program and strategy so as to appropriately fit the target population.

Community needs assessment:

Design and oversee the implementation of culturally proficient assessments to identify health disparities, social determinants of health, and key community issues impacting health outcomes.

Community outreach and engagement:

Build relationships with local organizations, regional health and social service providers, government services, community leaders, and stakeholders to foster collaboration, establish referral networks and promote health awareness within the community.

Data analysis and reporting:

Monitor program effectiveness by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on key community health and program indicators, utilizing data to inform decision-making and program adjustments. Ensure staff properly record and collect data in appropriate software platforms to enable analysis, evaluation and impact.

Compliance, budgeting and resource allocation:

Manage program budget, allocate resources efficiently to maximize impact and achieve program goals. Work with department director on diligent completion of all required grant, contract, program and internal reporting and ensure adherence to relevant safety and privacy protocols

Advocacy, building power and policy development:

Work collaboratively with other CASA departments to maximize opportunities to address community needs comprehensively, Engage in and develop opportunities for members to build power as a result of engaging with CASA. Advocate for policies and systems changes to address health disparities and improve community health outcomes.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, public health, or health administration field, or related/relevant experience.
  • Advanced degree in a public health related field is a plus but not required
  • Valid Community Health Worker Certification preferred but not required
  • Valid US Driver’s License and/or state issued Identification card and reliable transportation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Five (5) years experience leading, managing or coordinating teams
  • Proficient working in popular education, social work, community health or equivalent experience
  • Three years of experience in public health or community serving programs targeting multi-ethnic, working class immigrant community
  • Non-profit sector work experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of local social safety net or community based programs serving immigrant and working class families.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, active listening skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required; French is a plus
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft office, Google online, CRM databases such as Salesforce, and the ability to learn other required software programs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects
  • Quick learner and possesses the ability to prioritize in stressful situations
  • Deep commitment to social change and to growing CASA as a membership organization in which members have decision-making authority
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle changing situations and walk-in and phone requests

COMPENSATION: $67,592 - $75,103

  • All full time and part time permanent positions working 20 hours or more per week
