Position Overview:
CASA of the Eastern Panhandle is searching for a Volunteer Supervisor to support our Morgan County volunteers and strengthen our presence in the community. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children. The Volunteer Supervisor plays a critical role in strengthening families, promoting child safety, and ensuring children’s voices are heard.
The primary responsibilities of this position include providing guidance and support to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers by ensuring compliance with established regulations, policies, and best practices in working child abuse and neglect cases offering best-interest advocacy. The Volunteer Supervisor initiates required correspondence related to cases, maintains accurate case records and volunteer files, and compiles information to prepare reports.
In addition to volunteer supervision, this role supports volunteer recruitment and community engagement efforts by assisting with outreach activities, representing CASA at community events, and promoting awareness of the CASA mission. The Volunteer Supervisor participates in pre‑service training for new volunteers and monthly in‑service training, contributing to volunteer development, retention, and engagement while helping build strong community partnerships that support program growth.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Volunteer Supervision
- Supervise up to 25 volunteers and their cases
- Evaluate cases and assign volunteers based on interest, time, skills, and experience to ensure the best outcome for the child(ren.)
- Work with volunteers to advocate for the child's needs and monitor progress on achieving permanency.
- Review and edit court reports to ensure they are in accordance with established guidelines and criteria, and that they are accurate, goal directed, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Accompany volunteers to court hearings, meetings or visits as needed or, if required, attend in volunteers’ place and/or make appropriate arrangements in volunteers’ absence.
- Review issues and progress on cases with each volunteer monthly.
- Ensure that each volunteer remains compliant with standards, required visitations and in-service hours for continuing education.
- Coach and retain volunteers. Assist with implementing the volunteer retention plan and supported efforts.
- Maintain relationships with all professionals involved in the case to ensure quality of outcomes and a positive reputation in the community.
Training & Outreach
- Assist in organizing and implementing pre-service training for new CASA volunteers.
- Participate in volunteer training and continuing education programs.
- Participate in public relations and community education events for recruitment and increase the community’s awareness of CASA and improve the lives of children in the community.
Data Entry & Record Keeping
- Support CASA-EP in maintaining compliance with National standards; including records and case files of active cases.
- Compile volunteers’ case hours, visits, and contacts, and prepare monthly reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Passion for CASA’s mission and a deep commitment to advocating for children in the child welfare system.
- B.A. or B.S. in social work, psychology, justice or related field.
- Strong English written and oral communications skills required.
- Knowledge and experience in professional and/or volunteer staff supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain a rapport with volunteers to ensure they remain motivated and committed, and to promote retention.
- Cultural sensitivity
- Desire and ability to act as a dedicated team member.
- Excellent analytical skills and good judgment.
- Computer proficiency, GoogleSuite, O365, and online database experience.
- Access to a personal vehicle and the ability to drive to various communities in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia to perform job duties required.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and local protective services background check.
