Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Captain in operating and navigating the tugboat safely within harbor and coastal waters.
- Supervise deck crew and coordinate daily operations, including towing, docking, and barge handling.
- Monitor vessel systems and support routine maintenance and safety checks.
- Ensure compliance with all U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) regulations and company safety policies.
- Stand watch and handle navigation responsibilities as required.
- Assist with recordkeeping, safety drills, and inspections.
Qualifications:
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard Mate license appropriate for towing vessels (Mate of Towing or similar).
- Minimum 3 years of experience working aboard tugboats.
- Strong understanding of marine safety, navigation, and towing operations.
- TWIC card and current Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and communicate clearly with crew and supervisors.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the New York Harbor or similar busy ports.
- Familiarity with barge work, ship assist, and harbor maneuvering.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work on the water for extended shifts and in various weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and move around safely on deck.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
