What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician - PT 20hrs/Week position at Carver County?
Under minimal supervision from the Finance Manager, the Accounting Technician performs varied and complex accounting and administrative functions involving the preparation and maintenance of County financial records. Requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and a County-wide knowledge of financial activity, records, policies, procedures and regulations. Responsible for processing daily receipts, credit card reconciliations, maintaining payments against contracts, weekly claims processing, vendor maintenance, entry and reconciliation for budget amendments and journal entries.
• Performs General Accounting Functions on a County-wide basis.
• Processes and posts county receipts and verifies against accounts receivable invoice files. Prepares schedule of accounts receivable, quarterly, and annually.
• Reconciles credit card activity coming into the County.
• Monitors and reviews all county invoices and claims for payment to assure compliance with operational, legal and accounting requirements.
• Back up to budget amendment processing.
• Manages disbursement activity in the contract portal.
• Performs general administrative support functions within the office such as ordering office supplies.
• Serves as a critical cross-trained employee for the various functions within the Finance Department.
• Maintain and enhance various reports and spreadsheets for statistical record keeping purposes.
• Assists and provides information and responds to questions of various departments concerning claims, receipts, or contracts. Refers to others in the department if unable to resolve or respond to the issues.
• Special projects such as implementing new software programs and preparing financial statement information.
• Assists with the input and management of vendor changes.• Assists with miscellaneous data entry and tracking related to payroll activities.
• Is a vital resource for managing day-to-day activities in the office.
•Associates Degree in Accounting and one (1) year of bookkeeping, accounting, or finance experience
or
• High School Diploma and three (3) years of bookkeeping, accounting, or finance experience
and
• Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of products
• Valid Minnesota Drivers License or evidence of mobility
Preferred Qualification:
• One (1) year of experience in governmental accounting or a related area, including PC or automated system application
