What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Logistics Coordinator position at Carver Companies?
Summary/Objective:
The Marine Dispatcher is accountable for directing all vessel
movement operations and will provide leadership and labor relations skills to
optimize productivity. The Marine Dispatcher will often assess vessel capacity,
plan vessel activities, interact with in-transit vessels, and ensure desired
outcome from all vessel voyages.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to manage a team with demanding hours and tight deadlines
Must be dependable and willing to work extended and/or unusual hours/shifts including nights and weekends when necessary
Organization skills, multi-tasking and a strong attention to detail is crucial to this position
Ability to make independent decisions and solve problems with operational issues; proactive thinking, ability to react quickly and address issues as they arise
Strong communication skills; must be able to work well within a team and with others
Knowledge of tides
Broad knowledge of marine operating procedures and practices, specifically for tug boats and barges
Knowledge of budgeting, maintenance and repair of vessels, equipment, and infrastructure
Proactive and always looking ahead for the next challenge
Able to adjust priorities quickly in response to frequently changing circumstances
Accurate and timely communications skills are a must
Education and Experience:
- Previous work experience scheduling/coordinating marine vessel movements or operations
Minimum of one (1) year experience of sailing as a Chief Mate or Master
Degree in a maritime related field or similar, preferred
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a logistics-based position, preferably in the marine towing industry
Must be eligible and willing to obtain a TWIC card (or already have one) through the Federal Transportation Security Administration
