Job Title: District Wide School Nurse
Responsible To: School Nurse Coordinator, Building Administrator
Qualifications:
- LPN or RN with current license to practice nursing in the State of Missouri.
- Current certification in CPR
- Must be in good health due to continuous exposure to communicable disease.
- Must be able to make critical, independent, health-related judgments in life-threatening situations.
- Must have the ability to represent the district in a positive, helpful, friendly manner.
- Must have working computer/keyboarding skills.
- Must have the ability to keep confidential information Confidential.
Primary Functions:
The major focus of health services in the school setting is the promotion of health and wellness among students and staff, and the early detection and correction of health problems. The District Wide School Nurse will be housed at the High School but will also float to other buildings as needed. The District Wide School Nurse assists the Building Nurse in promoting and protecting the health status of students and staff through functions in the areas of health services, health education and maintenance of a health school environment.
Other Function: Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Specific Duties:
Health Services
- Provides first aid and administers medication at the school(s) in which he/she is assigned on a daily basis.
- Provides health assessments: taking vital signs, vision, hearing screenings, height/weight measurements; observes students for health concerns.
- Enters findings from screenings into Infinite Campus and sends referrals out as needed.
- Implements health plans and procedures: maintains confidential/cumulative health records, monitors health status of students; communicating with parents and school personnel as necessary; ealthHealinitiates and follows referrals for intervention
- Provides direct nursing intervention: administers appropriate level of first aid for illness and injury, including CPR, if necessary; provides crisis intervention for emotional/physical disturbances; administers medication and monitors effects; provides individual health counseling concerning high risk behaviors; performs skilled nursing functions
- Ensures that each student complies with the immunization requirements of the State of Missouri, and makes follow up calls on non-compliant students.
- Assisting families on setting up appointments as needed for immunizations.
- Completes training to be eligible to test students and staff for COVID-19.
- Assists in completing the documentation of COVID-19 results to the State of Missouri.
Health Education
- Provides health education for students, teaching health topics as in line with what Carthage R-9 District policies allow.
Healthy School Environment
- Compiles data on injuries in the school setting as necessary.
- Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases.
- Assists in coordinating and participating in health/wellness projects.
- Protects student health by attention to environmental health factors and maintaining cleanliness of health office.
