PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Learning and Development Specialist (LDS) is responsible for designing, implementing, administering and facilitating employee learning and development programs to improve individual skills or organizational performance. This position partners with leadership and department heads to assess training needs, develop learning solutions and deliver in-person training via classroom and virtual settings. This position administers the Learning Management System (LMS) and coordinates operational activities to ensure the successful design and execution of learning programs and projects. 
 

The LDS works closely with internal stakeholders and Human Resources (HR) to provide training and development for Carter BloodCare (CBC) employees. This includes implementing business and HR programs, creating and conducting training, continuously seeking process-improvement opportunities and supporting employee engagement. The LDS exercises discretion, maintains an exceptionally high level of confidentiality, and uses sound judgment when dealing with sensitive issues. 
 

The LDS exemplifies and champions HR service standards, CBC Core Values and Code of Conduct, and adheres to CBC policies and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). To support ongoing development and organizational goals, the LDS is required to attend meetings and training sessions, as assigned. 
 

The LDS conducts a wide range of training initiatives that support business and HR needs for employee engagement, process improvement, and employee development. Professional appearance and attendance are essential. Exempt employees are expected to maintain availability beyond standard business hours when business needs arise. Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, with a concentration in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, or a learning-oriented field 
  • Professional certification in Learning and Development or Training (e.g. CPTD, APTD), preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience designing, developing, and delivering employee learning and development programs in a corporate or business environment, preferably in an HR environment, partnering with business leaders

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Proficient with content development tools and course development, including performance-based and audio/video software
  • Strong understanding of instructional design theories and models, research skills, data assessment, and informed decision-making to create project plans and achieve milestones that align with strategic organizational objectives and are consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, or governmental law
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills; Ability to work effectively with others to deliver high-quality programs, initiatives, and presentations
  • Creative thinker with the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise messaging
  • Ability to maintain a continuous focus on improvement opportunities
  • Excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet established deadlines
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g., learning tools, MS Office, video and audio conferencing, SharePoint, LMS, Adobe, Articulate, Camtasia) and technologies (e.g., electronic quizzing/polling, video creation

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STRESS FACTORS

  • Stress associated with the ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Primarily a sedentary job that requires the ability to walk, stand, bend, and move up to 20 pounds
  • Mental stress due to tight deadlines and project implementation, within limits anticipated due to the nature and scope of the position
