Summary
Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in providing supportive interventions to all patients with mental health and substance abuse issues within the BHS system. Certified Peer Recovery and Support Specialists are those with “lived experience” who consider themselves in recovery from a substance use or mental health disorder. Peer support includes relationship building in order to provide support, advocacy, wellness, and community engagement services to individuals. Peer support encompasses a range of activities and interactions between people who have shared similar experiences of being diagnosed with mental health conditions. These services promote connection and inspires hope. Offers a level of acceptance, understanding, and validation. Offers encouragement, practical assistance, guidance, and understanding to support recovery. Share tools that can complement clinical supports by providing strategies for self-empowerment and achieving a self-determined life even when experiencing challenges.
Qualifications
Required:
- International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium State of Nevada Certification as Peer Recovery and Support Specialist Certification.
- NVCI/CPI Training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) initial certification within six (6) months of hire.
- At least two (2) years of experience as a Peer Support Specialist, Mental Health Tech, or similar roles in an acute behavioral healthcare setting.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
