The vision of Carrollwood Day school (CDS) is to build a community prepared and inspired to better the world. Since the inception of Carrollwood Day School in 1982, we have prided ourselves on being a community of learners.
We are seeking creative and organized camp counselors to join our Summer Camp team. We run a full-day summer camp at both of our campuses; Bearss Avenue (1st through 8th grade) and Casey Road (Pre-K3 through Kindergarten). The 2026 Summer Camp will begin with a week of paid training the last week of May and then run from 6/1-7/31.
The Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging summer camp experience for all campers. This role involves leading age-appropriate activities, supervising campers, and fostering a fun and supportive environment that encourages social, emotional, and cognitive development. They will provide a high quality indoor/outdoor educational and recreational experience, focused on CDS’s core values that foster the development of the entire student not only in academics, but also ethically, emotionally and through social experience.
Potential for End of Summer Bonus ($350):
- Be scheduled and present for 8 out of the 9 full weeks of summer camp
- Maintain an average of 20 hours per week across those 8 weeks
- Maintain an average of 20 hours during post-planning (training week at the end of May)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Implementation
- Develop and lead age-appropriate activities, including arts & crafts, games, storytelling, music, and outdoor play.
- Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs and interests of young campers.
- Maintain a structured yet flexible daily schedule that promotes fun and learning.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all campers feel encouraged to participate.
- Ensure activities align with camp themes, values, and goals while keeping sessions exciting and fun.
Camper Supervision and Safety
- Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times, maintaining a 7:1 or appropriate child-to-staff ratio.
- Monitor campers’ behavior and intervene when necessary to provide guidance and redirection.
- Follow camp safety procedures, including emergency protocols and first aid guidelines.
- Respond calmly and effectively in case of emergencies, reporting incidents as required.
Behavior Management & Social Development
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that supports teamwork and respect among campers.
- Encourage campers’ independence and confidence through guided problem-solving and cooperative play.
- Address conflicts appropriately using positive reinforcement and conflict resolution techniques.
- Implement age-appropriate conflict resolution techniques to help campers navigate disagreements in a constructive way.
- Maintain open communication with camp directors, fellow counselors, and support staff.
- Provide updates to parents regarding their child’s progress, behavior, and camp experiences as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Assist in setting up and cleaning up camp activities and materials daily.
- Complete necessary reports, attendance records, and incident documentation.
- Ensure that all equipment and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, and a passion for working with young children.
- Adhere to camp policies, code of conduct, and child protection guidelines.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating kindness, responsibility, and leadership.
Hygiene & Personal Care Assistance (PreK-3 to Kindergarten)
- Help clean and change campers who have accidents, ensuring they are comfortable and cared for.
- Maintain a hygienic and respectful approach while assisting young children in changing clothes due to spills, accidents, or water play.
- Communicate with leads regarding any incidents involving accidents or clothing changes.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) Camp Counselors must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate a positive attitude, flexibility and the ability to work independently.
Required:
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- At least 1-2 years of experience with childcare, teaching or camp counseling
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to participate in potentially strenuous physical activity
- Demonstrated skills in conflict mediation
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Compensation includes an hourly wage commensurate with experience.
