Position Summary:
We are looking for a dependable and safety-oriented Driver to perform local deliveries within Connecticut and surrounding areas. This position involves transporting goods in compliance with Connecticut state laws and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This role is strictly local—no overnight travel is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a commercial vehicle safely and efficiently for local deliveries.
- Assist unloading at most locations
- Follow assigned daily delivery routes and maintain accurate delivery schedules.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections per DOT and company standards.
- Maintain a clean driving record and comply with all Connecticut and local motor vehicle laws and federal DOT regulations.
- Accurately complete delivery logs, driver logs (electronic or paper), and any required DOT documentation.
- Report mechanical problems or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor.
- Ensure vehicle is clean and properly maintained; may require light maintenance checks such as checking tire pressure, fluids, etc.
- Interact with customers in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintain compliance with hours-of-service (HOS) regulations; no overnight runs required.
Working Conditions:
- Local/regional deliveries only—no overnight stays required.
- Mostly daytime hours, occasional extended hours depending on route demands.
- Must be able to drive in all seasons, including snow and rain, per Connecticut and regional road conditions
- Must possess a valid Connecticut Class A driver’s license
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as required by DOT and CT DMV standards.
- Minimum of 3 years of driving experience with commercial or delivery vehicles preferred.
- Must pass a DOT physical and be registered in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
- Knowledge of Connecticut state and local traffic and commercial driving laws.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Familiarity with using GPS and electronic logging devices (ELDs) if applicable.
- Manual transmission experience preferred.
Additional Requirements (as applicable):
- DOT Medical Certification: Must maintain a valid DOT medical card.
- Hours of Service Compliance: Must comply with federal HOS rules; daily logs must be completed and submitted accurately.
- Drug and Alcohol Testing: Subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing in accordance with DOT regulations.
