We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Oriental and Area Rug Cleaning Technician to operate out of our dedicated cleaning facility in Niles, Illinois. With 30 years serving the Chicagoland area, our standard is excellence in textile care.
We need a skilled craftsman who understands the delicate chemistry and specialized construction of fine rugs—including hand-knotted wool, antique Oriental pieces, delicate silk, and synthetic blends. You will handle the end-to-end cleaning and care process in a professional rug wash facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection & Documentation: Conduct thorough pre-inspections of area rugs to identify fiber content, weave style, dye stability, pre-existing damage, pet contamination, and wear patterns.
- Dusting & Soil Extraction: Operate professional rug dusting equipment to remove embedded particulate dry soil safely prior to wet washing.
- Washing & Submersion Cleaning: Execute specialized wet cleaning, submersion washing, and targeted stain removal treatments tailored to delicate natural and synthetic fibers.
- Rinsing & Extraction: Utilize professional centrifugal wringers, extractors, and flood-rinsing techniques to ensure complete residue removal.
- Controlled Drying & Finishing: Manage fast, controlled drying environments to prevent dimensional distortion or browning; perform final grooming, fringe detailing, and rolling for delivery.
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe wash floor and equipment lineup in our Niles facility.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in specialized area rug washing, textile care, or professional carpet and upholstery cleaning.
- Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of fiber identification (wool, cotton, silk, jute, synthetics), dye bleeding prevention, pH balancing, and specialty spot removal.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift, move, and position heavy, wet area rugs and operate commercial washing and extraction equipment.
- Work Ethic: High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to our Niles facility.
