Position Overview
The Bankruptcy Paralegal will provide essential legal and case management support to attorneys and clients in Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and other complex bankruptcy matters. This role requires a strong understanding of bankruptcy law, excellent drafting and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, dependable, and capable of handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Case Management
Serve as primary point of contact for clients, keeping them informed and supported throughout the bankruptcy process.
Prepare and organize all documents required for 341 Meetings, petitions, schedules, motions, and other filings.
Act as a liaison between clients, attorneys, trustees, courts, and opposing counsel.
Drafting & Filing
Draft bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements of financial affairs, motions, orders, discovery responses, and correspondence.
File pleadings, motions, and related documents through the Bankruptcy Court CM/ECF system.
Prepare and file Certificates of Service, Proofs of Service, and notices.
Research & Case Support
Conduct legal research on bankruptcy laws, regulations, and procedures to assist attorneys with case strategy.
Review and analyze financial records, claims registers, and court dockets.
Summarize and prepare case chronologies, deposition outlines, and hearing exhibits.
Administrative & Technical
Manage case calendars, deadlines, and hearings using Google Calendar and legal case management software (Clio preferred).
Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, mediations, and trials, including exhibits and witness coordination.
Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical filing systems.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a paralegal, with a strong background in bankruptcy law (Chapter 7 and 11 required; Chapter 13 experience a plus).
Certification as a paralegal or completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and familiarity with Clio Manage/Clio Grow or similar case management platforms.
Strong knowledge of federal and bankruptcy court rules, filing procedures, and e-filing systems.
Exceptional drafting, research, and writing skills.
High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
