What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler 2nd Shift position at Carpenter Co.?
Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Material Handler in our Fiber/Filtration Department, at our Richmond Plant location (2400 Richmond Highway, Richmond VA 23234). Material Handlers are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment at our manufacturing facility. This includes tasks like cleaning various machinery and equipment, sweeping floors, disposing of waste (fiber and other accumulated trash), and assisting the production team.
This position is Monday through Friday, 2nd Shift (2:30pm to 11:00pm). Additionally, in order to meet production needs, all employees in our manufacturing industry are expected to work more than 8-hour shifts and on weekends (if needed).
Essential Functions
- Use various tools to clean an industrial machine, its surfaces, and its parts (i.e. belts, ovens, spray stations, nets, etc.).
- Dispose various waste and trash.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
- Follow the Fiber Department layout plan for proper storage locations.
- Clear the 'needle board's (remove broken needles and replace with new)
- Operate cleaning equipment such as pressure washers, floor scrubbers, etc.
- Ensure downtime is kept at a minimum.
- Assists 1st Shift production staff at the end of the production line (loading bailer, placing product in bags, loading finished product onto rack, etc.).
- Must successfully be forklift certified
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have prior experience in manufacturing, chemical, or production environment.
- Must have basic reading, writing, and math skills.
