Director of Corporate Accounting

**Hybrid schedule of 3 days in office per week**

Position Overview

Carolina PRG has partnered with a $2B publicly traded company that is seeking a Director of Corporate Accounting to join its corporate accounting leadership team. This position is open due to an internal promotion and represents an excellent opportunity for a high-performing accounting leader who wants to join an organization committed to developing talent and building a best-in-class finance and accounting function.

The Director of Corporate Accounting will report directly to the Vice President, Corporate Controller, an exceptional leader who is highly regarded for developing and mentoring his team. The organization is also led by a forward-thinking, visionary Chief Accounting Officer who is focused on transforming the accounting organization, strengthening processes and controls, developing talent, and creating an environment where high performers can build long-term careers.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, improving processes, strengthening the control environment, and solving complex accounting and operational challenges. The successful candidate should also have the ambition and potential to grow beyond the Director level as the organization continues to evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the corporate accounting function, with direct responsibility for four Senior Managers and indirect leadership of approximately 8–12 accounting professionals.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and professional development to a talented accounting team.
  • Oversee key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Partner closely with the Corporate Controller, CAO, business unit accounting teams, FP&A, Internal Audit, External Audit, Tax, Treasury, and other functional leaders.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve accounting processes, with a focus on scalability, efficiency, accuracy, and stronger controls.
  • Play a leadership role in the remediation of material weaknesses and significant deficiencies, including evaluating root causes, developing sustainable solutions, and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and operating effectively.
  • Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls across the organization.
  • Support the company's SOX compliance efforts and work collaboratively with internal and external auditors.
  • Review complex accounting matters, reconciliations, journal entries, financial analyses, and other corporate accounting activities.
  • Drive consistency and standardization of accounting practices across the organization.
  • Develop team members through meaningful coaching, increased responsibility, and exposure to senior leadership.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner to senior accounting and finance leadership and contribute to broader initiatives designed to create a best-in-class accounting organization.
  • Participate in special projects and transformation initiatives as the company continues to enhance its finance and accounting infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Active CPA required.
  • Public accounting experience required.
  • Must currently be working within the accounting/finance organization of a publicly traded company.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, SOX, and internal controls.
  • Significant corporate accounting and financial reporting experience within a complex public-company environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting professionals and managers.
  • Experience identifying and implementing accounting process and control improvements.
  • Experience working through control deficiencies, including material weaknesses and/or significant deficiencies, strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with executive leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional business partners.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation combined with an operational and process-improvement mindset.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a high-potential accounting leader who wants more than simply maintaining the status quo. This individual will enjoy developing people, challenging existing processes, strengthening controls, and helping build a more efficient and scalable accounting organization.

We are looking for someone who can balance strong technical accounting skills with leadership, curiosity, and a continuous-improvement mindset. The successful candidate will be comfortable entering an environment where there is meaningful work to be done around process enhancement and remediation, and will view those opportunities as a chance to make a measurable impact.

Most importantly, this individual should be motivated to continue growing professionally. The company has demonstrated a commitment to internal advancement, and this role is intended for someone with the ability and ambition to ultimately progress beyond the Director level.
