Position Summary

The Logistics Specialist is a combined shipping/receiving and logistics coordination role responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all inbound and outbound freight operations. This position supports cost reporting, freight invoice auditing, shipment documentation, carrier communication, and continuous improvement of logistics processes within our fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Shipping & Receiving Operations

• Negotiate, tender and schedule inbound/outbound shipments for Pineville plant, including outbound customer orders, inbound ingredient/packaging, and maintenance equipment.
• Track carrier performance (on time pickup/delivery, cost per space).
• Monitor production schedule to ensure carrier pickup requests align with product availability.
• Send end-of-day report for missed pickups/deliveries and coordinate/communicate rescheduled arrival date with carriers.
• Process and ship-confirm Advance Shipment Notices (ASNs) for all inbound and outbound loads.
• Perform driver check-in and check-out procedures.
• Verify Bill of Lading (BOL), Proof of Delivery (POD), and all related shipping documentation.
• Track and monitor shipment statuses; confirm daily outbound loads and next-day carrier assignments.
• Investigate and resolve delivery discrepancies or delays in a timely manner.
• Combine loads and map routes for efficiency using PC Miler or similar tools.

Documentation & Cost Reporting

• Key and balance weekly, monthly, and annual cost reports in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
• Conduct freight invoice audits; file claims with LTL and truckload carriers as needed.
• Validate submitted orders, invoice details, BOLs, and PODs.
• Prepare, maintain, and distribute exception reports.
• Support inventory control efforts as needed.

Team Support & Communication

• Communicate effectively with the transportation team, internal departments, and external carriers.
• Provide backup support to other Logistics team members.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within shipping and receiving processes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience in logistics, shipping, receiving, or transportation within a manufacturing environment (food industry preferred).
• Strong working knowledge of shipping logistics documentation: Bill of Lading (BOL), Proof of Delivery (POD), and Advance Shipment Notices (ASN).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills including spreadsheets, formulas, and pivot tables.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
• Excellent organization and multitasking abilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced customer service mindset with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• JD Edwards ERP experience.
• Rate negotiation experience.
• Knowledge of inventory control processes and freight auditing procedures.
