For 40 years, Carnegie Prep has offered test prep and academic support for students and families in Fairfield and Westchester counties and beyond. Founded by two teachers in Greenwich, CT, Carnegie Prep prepares students to meet the challenges of standardized testing, academic classes, and college admission, offering resources for students at all levels.
Role Overview:
We're looking for talented, motivated tutors to join our team for SAT and ACT prep. Whether you're an experienced educator, or a recent college graduate with a love of teaching, Carnegie Prep offers one of the most rewarding and well-compensated tutoring roles in the area.
This is a flexible, part-time or full-time role that fits around your existing schedule. We provide training and ongoing support, so whether you are a seasoned educator or newer to test prep, you'll have everything you need to succeed.
Tutoring sessions take place in local libraries, students' homes, or other mutually agreed-upon locations across Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY - including Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Westport, Fairfield, Rye, and Armonk.
Responsibilities include:
- Deliver personalized, one-on-one SAT/ACT prep sessions tailored to each student's goals, strengths, and areas for improvement
- Diagnose knowledge gaps and build content mastery through targeted instruction and effective test-taking strategies
- Motivate and engage students, including those who feel anxious or overwhelmed by standardized testing
- Communicate regularly with parents and the Carnegie Prep team, providing updates on session content, student progress, and next steps
- Provide regular updates to parents summarizing session content, student progress, and areas of focus
- Support students across their full prep journey — many sit for the SAT/ACT multiple times, and their needs may range from a few focused sessions to several months of ongoing coaching

- Compensation starts at $100 per hour, with some of our top tutors earning over $100,000 per year

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required (Master's or teaching certification a plus)
- Availability to meet students in-person on weekday afternoons/evenings and/or weekends — you control your own schedule and can take on as few or as many hours as you'd like
- Reliable transportation for in-person sessions in Fairfield/Westchester Counties
- High academic achievement and passion for teaching
- Candidates who have themselves scored in the top percentiles on the SAT, ACT, or similar exams are a plus!
- Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to commit to tutoring for a year or more
