Duties

• Safely operate passenger vehicles such as vans, shuttle buses, or specialized medical transport vehicles to transfer residents within the facility or to external destinations.
• Follow designated local driving routes while adhering to all traffic laws and state transportation regulations to ensure resident safety at all times.
• Assist residents with boarding and disembarking vehicles, providing physical support and ensuring comfort during transit.
• Maintain clear communication with healthcare staff, clients, and family members regarding transport schedules and resident needs.
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections, perform basic maintenance checks, and report any mechanical issues promptly to ensure vehicle safety and reliability.
• Handle heavy lifting when necessary to assist residents with mobility devices or luggage, always prioritizing proper manual handling techniques.
• Document transport activities accurately in logs or electronic records, including pick-up/drop-off times and any incidents that occur during transit.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a delivery driver, bus driver, shuttle driver, limousine chauffeur, or personal vehicle delivery is highly desirable.
• Valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type (e.g., passenger van license) with a clean driving record.
• Experience operating passenger vehicles such as vans or shuttle buses; familiarity with GPS navigation systems is essential for efficient route planning.
• Knowledge of local driving routes along with adherence to traffic laws and state transportation regulations.
• Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and coordination with healthcare teams.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely; experience with manual handling techniques is preferred.
• Medical transportation experience or background in passenger vehicle operation enhances suitability for this role.
• Excellent customer service skills combined with a professional demeanor to provide compassionate care during transit.
• Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge to identify issues early and ensure vehicle safety standards are met.
