Job Summary
Special Education Learning Center Teacher, Special Education DEFINITION Under the direct supervision of the site Principal, provides an instructional program for students with exceptional needs. Provides specific remedial instruction and teaches students means of enhancing their strengths. Implements the integrated resource model. Serves as a consult for regular classroom teachers and parents in all areas related to the learning center program EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Implements goals and objectives of the IEP. Teaches students to use learning strategies which reflect their strengths. Plans and implements a remedial learning program for students which will help them progress on IEP goals. Collects and reviews student data to monitor student progress in the learning center program and in the regular classroom on a regular basis. Provides consultant services to regular classroom teachers in the identification of assessment of learning and behavior patterns in pupils. Coordinates referral and assessment procedures for pupils. Coordinates Individualized Education Program Team meetings in accordance with legal requirements. Coordinates the organization and distribution of special education materials for both learning center and regular classrooms. Coordinates individualized instruction and activities of the learning center program with regular classroom curriculum. Process all information leading to approval of services by a child’s parent or guardian. Provides consultation to parents in areas related to their child’s abilities, including strengths and weaknesses; as well as to the child’s needs and goals’ including career and vocational planning alternatives. Provides parents with basic knowledge of assessment procedures and instrumentations and how to utilize the information. Provides parents with basic home enrichment and home management techniques designed to meet the needs of their child. Coordinates paraprofessionals to assist with the delivery of
