Behavioral Technician Duties and Responsibilities
Work with students one-on-one to affect behavior changes
Identify student's needs and provide subsequent behavioral interventions.
Execute behavioral interventions designed to make positive and appropriate changes.
Identify crisis situations and de-escalate situations using conflict resolution and behavior management techniques.
Reinforce appropriate behaviors and redirect negative behaviors
Provide values clarification including rules, expectations and consequences
Implement consequences for inappropriate behavior
With proper training, physically restrain students for safety, if necessary.
Collaborate with staff to develop an effective program of behavioral interventions for changing unacceptable behavior.
Follow a behavioral intervention plan, when one is in place for the student.
Provide approved behavioral interventions, as designed by administrators and/or behavior professionals within the school.
Provide information to parents, guardians, or other care providers concerning actions of the student.
Ensure consistency of behavioral standards by coordinating with appropriate student contacts.
Monitor physical and emotional changes in students.
Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and administrators to exchange information regarding previous and current behavior problems.
During behavioral escalation and when necessary, spend time with students outside of the classroom to avoid interruption of other students' learning.
Document observations and behavioral interventions used.
Assist the school site team by monitoring student behavior changes, assisting with academics, and supervising various activities during the course of the instructional day to maintain a controlled and safe environment for students and staff.
Attend IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and student progress meetings as requested.
Education and Experience
Required
High School diploma or GED.
Possess or qualify for a New Mexico Level III Educational Assistant License.
Must be able to pass employment verification.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Preferred
Associate degree
College level coursework in language arts, reading, writing, math, special education, professional education, classroom management is desired.
Additional education and/or desirable training.
